Timid with strangers was a challenge

My Sheltie was quite fearful of strangers initially and we had to invest significantly in socialization and confidence-building. He is much better now but he will never be a confident, outgoing dog with unfamiliar people. He is happy and confident with his family and trusted friends. For someone who wants a social, outgoing dog he would be the wrong choice. For a family-focused companion he is wonderful.
