If you live in a flat and want a dog, the Shih Tzu is a top contender. Low exercise requirements (two short daily walks is sufficient), calm demeanour, and perfectly sized for smaller spaces. Mine never barks at neighbours, doesn't require a garden, and travels easily. A genuinely practical dog for urban life.
