Excellent with children and elderly people alike

My mother has a Shih Tzu and my children adore him. He's patient with young children and gentle with my elderly mother. He adjusts his behaviour instinctively — calmer with her, livelier with the kids. This adaptability within the family is remarkable. He seems genuinely attuned to what different people need from him.
