The prey drive was a surprise

My Westie is wonderful in most respects but her prey drive for small animals is very high. She has escaped the garden twice in pursuit of squirrels and cannot be trusted off-leash anywhere near wildlife. We have reinforced all fencing and she is safely contained but the instinct is real and strong. Her prey drive does not extend to the cats she has grown up with but anything new and small is in potential danger.
