My 11 days exploring Akureyri and beyond — completely worth it

I spent 11 days in Iceland and based myself mainly in Akureyri. The city itself exceeded expectations — the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon was genuinely jaw-dropping and I ended up visiting twice. Food was a highlight throughout; I must have eaten skyr every other day and have no regrets about it whatsoever.

What I didn't expect was geological spectacle unlike anywhere on earth. That element really elevated the trip from good to exceptional. The locals I encountered were warm and patient with my attempts at the language. I'd encourage anyone on the fence to just book it.
