My 9 days exploring Sigiriya and beyond — completely worth it

I spent 9 days in Sri Lanka and based myself mainly in Sigiriya. The city itself exceeded expectations — the Temple of the Tooth Relic was genuinely jaw-dropping and I ended up visiting twice. Food was a highlight throughout; I must have eaten rice and curry every other day and have no regrets about it whatsoever.

What I didn't expect was affordable luxury. That element really elevated the trip from good to exceptional. The locals I encountered were warm and patient with my attempts at the language. I'd encourage anyone on the fence to just book it.
