Ashak as comfort food — exactly what I needed
Some dishes exist to comfort and Ashak is absolutely in that category. The subtly sweet from dried fruit quality works on something almost primal — you feel the warmth of it immediately. bolani stuffing herbs does work that no substitute can replicate.
Afghan hospitality tradition demands feeding guests regardless of the host's circumstances. There's something about the a traditional Afghan home dinner context that reinforces the comfort effect. fresh pomegranate juice alongside is the traditional way and it makes complete sense.
