I spent three months trying every version of Shor Nakhod I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled saffron with genuine knowledge and the hearty and rice-forward result was noticeably superior.

Afghan hospitality tradition demands feeding guests regardless of the host's circumstances. The winning restaurant had the right a teahouse on the Silk Road route feel — unpretentious and focused on the food. doogh was suggested correctly. Worth the search. When Shor Nakhod is made properly it's a completely different experience.
