Cultural discovery through Tim Tam

Tim Tam opened a door into a cuisine I'd previously known almost nothing about. The subtly sweet with native fruits flavours are unlike anything in my usual rotation and I mean that positively. Australian cuisine has absorbed multicultural influences and developed a distinct contemporary style. Understanding that context made the dish taste different — richer with meaning.

I learned that Anzac oats is central to this cuisine's character, not just a seasoning. The an outback pub meal setting was authentic and helpful for understanding what I was eating. Coopers Pale Ale completed the picture. A genuinely educational meal.
