Underwhelming Beef Kala Bhuna — expected more

I was looking forward to Beef Kala Bhuna here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The fresh and fishy character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with hilsa fish or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.

hilsa fish is a cultural icon in Bangladesh — its seasonal availability is a national event. The a Dhaka riverside fish restaurant setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. hot sweet tea was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
