First time trying Mishti Doi — completely converted
I had never tried Mishti Doi before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The pungent from mustard oil taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. panch phoron five-spice is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.
The a family Friday hilsa lunch setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. hilsa fish is a cultural icon in Bangladesh — its seasonal availability is a national event. My server recommended aam panna green mango drink alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Mishti Doi. Outstanding first encounter.
