First time trying Shorshe Ilish — completely converted

I had never tried Shorshe Ilish before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The pungent from mustard oil taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. posto poppy seeds is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.

The a family Friday hilsa lunch setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. hilsa fish is a cultural icon in Bangladesh — its seasonal availability is a national event. My server recommended lassi alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Shorshe Ilish. Outstanding first encounter.
