Restaurant review — Shepherd's Pie that actually delivered

I'm sceptical of any restaurant claiming to do Shepherd's Pie well, having been disappointed often enough. This one delivered. The deeply satisfying base was authentic and the use of mature Cheddar showed real knowledge.

British cuisine was shaped by the Empire, introducing curries and international ingredients into the national diet. The atmosphere was genuinely a country house hotel, which the food matched. real ale came with the meal as it should. The portions were generous and the price was fair. A reliable place for this dish.
