The Laphet Thohk I grew up eating — memory as a review
I grew up eating Laphet Thohk and have strong opinions shaped by memory. The version here triggered that recognition in the first bite — the warming with turmeric was right, fermented tea leaves laphet was handled the way it should be.
laphet fermented tea leaf salad is a uniquely Burmese ingredient used in salads and as a stimulant snack. Growing up it was always a Yangon tea shop, which shaped my reference point entirely. toddy palm juice alongside it is the only way it makes sense to me. It's hard to be objective about food you have emotional history with, but objectively: this is very good.
