I went in with low expectations — I'd had mediocre versions before. What I found was Lok Lak made with real commitment to kroeung lemongrass paste and technique. The delicate and herbal result was more complex and satisfying than anything I'd had before.

Cambodian cuisine shares roots with Thai and Vietnamese cooking but has its own distinct identity shaped by Khmer culture. The a Phnom Penh riverside restaurant was exactly right for this kind of eating. Angkor beer was offered as the natural choice and it elevated everything. When a dish you thought you knew surprises you completely, that's worth celebrating. Five stars without hesitation.
