Honest verdict on Pastel de Choclo — good but not exceptional
Pastel de Choclo here was solidly made — fresh from the sea without anything to complain about. merkén smoked chilli was present and handled reasonably. But something was missing from the depth that this dish should have.
Chilean cuisine reflects the extraordinary length of the country with Pacific seafood, Andean ingredients, and Patagonian lamb all defining different regions. The a family asado atmosphere was pleasant enough. mote con huesillo peach drink was available and a good suggestion. For a reliable version of Pastel de Choclo this works. For an exceptional one, I'd keep looking. Three stars.
