Finding the best Smørrebrød in the city — a personal search

I spent three months trying every version of Smørrebrød I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled rye bread rugbrød with genuine knowledge and the clean and fermented result was noticeably superior.

Danish New Nordic cuisine movement redefined fine dining globally in the 2000s. The winning restaurant had the right a Christmas julefrokost feast feel — unpretentious and focused on the food. Danish lager was suggested correctly. Worth the search. When Smørrebrød is made properly it's a completely different experience.
