Underwhelming Churchkhela — expected more
I was looking forward to Churchkhela here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The nutty and aromatic character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with tkemali plum sauce or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.
Georgia claims one of the world's oldest continuous wine-making traditions dating back 8000 years. The a Tbilisi restaurant with a tamada toastmaster setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. chacha grape pomace spirit was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
