First time trying Waakye — completely converted
I had never tried Waakye before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The hearty and earthy taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. dried fish is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.
The a Accra chop bar setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. the debate over Ghanaian versus Nigerian jollof rice is a celebrated West African rivalry. My server recommended Malt Guinness alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Waakye. Outstanding first encounter.
