First time trying Dobos Torte — completely converted

I had never tried Dobos Torte before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The creamy and savoury taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. lard is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.

The a Budapest csárda tavern setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. Hungarian cuisine was shaped by nomadic Magyar traditions mixed with Ottoman and Habsburg influences. My server recommended soda water spritzer alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Dobos Torte. Outstanding first encounter.
