First time trying Goulash — completely converted

I had never tried Goulash before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The richly paprika-spiced taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. onion is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.

The a lakeside restaurant on the Balaton setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. Hungarian cuisine was shaped by nomadic Magyar traditions mixed with Ottoman and Habsburg influences. My server recommended Pálinka fruit brandy alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Goulash. Outstanding first encounter.
