I spent three months trying every version of Hainanese Chicken Rice I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled pandan with genuine knowledge and the fragrant and aromatic result was noticeably superior.
Penang is considered the food capital of Malaysia and rivals Singapore for hawker excellence. The winning restaurant had the right a mamak 24-hour restaurant feel — unpretentious and focused on the food. Milo was suggested correctly. Worth the search. When Hainanese Chicken Rice is made properly it's a completely different experience.
