Underwhelming Roti Canai — expected more

I was looking forward to Roti Canai here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The richly spiced and coconut-sweet character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with belacan shrimp paste or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.

Penang is considered the food capital of Malaysia and rivals Singapore for hawker excellence. The a Baba Nyonya Peranakan restaurant setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. Milo was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
