Harira as comfort food — exactly what I needed

Some dishes exist to comfort and Harira is absolutely in that category. The complex with dried fruit and spice quality works on something almost primal — you feel the warmth of it immediately. preserved lemon does work that no substitute can replicate.

Moroccan cuisine draws from Berber, Arab, Andalusian, and French influences. There's something about the a desert camp dinner context that reinforces the comfort effect. almond milk alongside is the traditional way and it makes complete sense. I come back to this dish when I need something dependable and restorative.
