I grew up eating Egusi Soup and have strong opinions shaped by memory. The version here triggered that recognition in the first bite — the deeply umami from fermented ingredients was right, crayfish powder was handled the way it should be.

suya spiced meat skewers are eaten across West Africa but claim deep Nigerian roots. Growing up it was always a Lagos buka local restaurant, which shaped my reference point entirely. zobo hibiscus drink alongside it is the only way it makes sense to me. It's hard to be objective about food you have emotional history with, but objectively: this is very good.
