You can taste history in Biltong if you know what to look for. the braai is a cross-cultural South African institution that transcends racial and social divides. The smoky and braaied character reflects those layers — boerewors spice mix doesn't appear by accident; it came from a specific tradition.

The a shebeen township tavern setting made sense of it. You understand the food differently when the context is right. Castle Lager alongside is part of that story. Some food is just fuel. Biltong, properly made, is something more. This version told the story well.
