Finding the best Koeksisters in the city — a personal search

I spent three months trying every version of Koeksisters I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled braai wood and coals with genuine knowledge and the spiced and savoury result was noticeably superior.

the braai is a cross-cultural South African institution that transcends racial and social divides. The winning restaurant had the right a game reserve bush dinner feel — unpretentious and focused on the food. Pinotage wine was suggested correctly. Worth the search. When Koeksisters is made properly it's a completely different experience.
