Finding the best Melktert in the city — a personal search

I spent three months trying every version of Melktert I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled boerewors spice mix with genuine knowledge and the sweet-tangy from chutney result was noticeably superior.

Cape Malay cuisine reflects the heritage of enslaved people brought from Southeast Asia. The winning restaurant had the right a game reserve bush dinner feel — unpretentious and focused on the food. Amarula cream liqueur was suggested correctly. Worth the search. When Melktert is made properly it's a completely different experience.
