Underwhelming Lu Rou Fan — expected more

I was looking forward to Lu Rou Fan here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The deeply savoury from braising character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with basil or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.

bubble tea was invented in Taiwan and exported globally as one of the most influential food trends of recent decades. The a Taipei night market setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. Taiwanese lager was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
