The soundtrack alone is worth the watch

Neon Genesis Evangelion has one of the great anime soundtracks. The music elevates emotional scenes to something transcendent. the deconstruction of the mecha genre is made three times more impactful by the score. Hideaki Anno clearly understood how music and image work together.
