I've been growing plants seriously for over fifteen years and Tillandsia Ionantha remains a reliable favourite. For anyone starting out: the most critical thing is misting more frequently in hot dry indoor conditions. Everything else follows from that.

scale insects or mealybug in the leaf bases is the challenge that trips up most beginners and some experienced growers too. I've been growing mine in attached to a seashell or stone for a natural arrangement for three seasons now and the results are consistently good. surprisingly tough once watering rhythm is established is what makes it worth coming back to year after year. most vigorous growth in warm humid summer months is when I show it off — it earns its place fully then.
