After growing Blue Flag Iris for over a year here is what I'd tell a beginner.

First: dividing overcrowded plants every two or three years in spring is not optional — it's the foundation everything else depends on. Second: blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds will happen and you should know how to handle it before it does. Third: a natural wildlife pond with naturalistic marginal planting genuinely matters — the right position unlocks cooling visual effect and microclimate benefit in summer in a way a poor position never will. peak flowering period in midsummer is the payoff for getting all of this right. It's worth every bit of effort.
