The propagation success I didn't expect with Blue Flag Iris

I started with one Blue Flag Iris and now have four, all from propagation. The process is straightforward once you understand positioning at the correct water depth for the species — something I picked up from trial and error rather than any guide.

I display them in a natural wildlife pond with naturalistic marginal planting which shows off extraordinary flower forms rising above or floating on the water at its best. foliage die-back and pond tidying in autumn is when they're most impressive. blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds has been my main challenge across all of them, but it's manageable now that I know what to look for. A genuinely generous plant if you let it be.
