Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Cattail

People describe Cattail as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. positioning at the correct water depth for the species needs consistent attention and blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Cattail is genuinely underrated is the beauty. natural filtration improving water clarity and quality is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a stream edge or bog garden and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. peak flowering period in midsummer is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
