Beginner success with Hornwort — here is what helped

As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Hornwort. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to planting in aquatic baskets with specialist pond compost.

I grow mine in a formal ornamental pond with clear water and reflections which is working really well. extraordinary flower forms rising above or floating on the water was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. first leaf pads emerging at the water surface in spring has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring overrunning the pond surface in productive warm summers, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
