Container growing Lotus — a practical guide from experience
I don't have a garden so a natural wildlife pond with naturalistic marginal planting is my only option for Lotus. It absolutely works — with the right attention to positioning at the correct water depth for the species you can get excellent results in containers.
cooling visual effect and microclimate benefit in summer is fully achievable even in a pot. foliage die-back and pond tidying in autumn is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
