As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Pickerelweed. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality.

I grow mine in a half-barrel water garden for a small patio which is working really well. essential habitat and breeding ground for pond wildlife was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. foliage die-back and pond tidying in autumn has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring overrunning the pond surface in productive warm summers, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
