Slow start but a stunning finish with Pickerelweed
The first few months with Pickerelweed were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality right was the turning point.
natural filtration improving water clarity and quality became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a natural wildlife pond with naturalistic marginal planting it gets the attention it deserves. first leaf pads emerging at the water surface in spring was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
