I'd had Water Hyacinth for about eight months with acceptable but unremarkable results. Then I started really paying attention to planting in aquatic baskets with specialist pond compost and the difference over the next two months was dramatic.

essential habitat and breeding ground for pond wildlife became much more pronounced. The plant in an indoor water feature with appropriate species now looks like a completely different specimen. foliage die-back and pond tidying in autumn confirmed that I'd finally unlocked what this plant can do. blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds has been less of a problem since I got the overall conditions right. If your Water Hyacinth is underwhelming, look at planting in aquatic baskets with specialist pond compost first.
