I nearly gave up on Water Hyacinth after three months of mediocre results. Then I focused properly on planting in aquatic baskets with specialist pond compost and within a few weeks the difference was dramatic.

It now lives in a half-barrel water garden for a small patio and has genuinely transformed that spot. cooling visual effect and microclimate benefit in summer is even more impressive in person than I expected from photos. foliage die-back and pond tidying in autumn was spectacular — worth every bit of patience. If you're struggling with yours, planting in aquatic baskets with specialist pond compost is almost certainly the issue.
