Honest review: Fargesia Bamboo is rewarding but die-back after mass flowering which occurs once per lifetime is real
Fargesia Bamboo is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: die-back after mass flowering which occurs once per lifetime. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, rapid establishment and fast vertical growth makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a poolside or water feature surrounding planting which suits it well. Learning about removing the oldest and most congested canes each spring has been essential. best container division and replanting in spring is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
