Beginner success with Heavenly Bamboo — here is what helped

As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Heavenly Bamboo. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to removing the oldest and most congested canes each spring.

I grow mine in a windbreak planting in an exposed position which is working really well. year-round evergreen screening and architectural presence was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. cane hardening and leafing out through summer has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring running bamboo spreading beyond its intended boundary, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
