I don't have a garden so a bright indoor shelf for tropical species only is my only option for Azalea Bonsai. It absolutely works — with the right attention to repotting every two to three years with root pruning you can get excellent results in containers.

seasonal change including blossom, foliage colour, and bare winter silhouette is fully achievable even in a pot. winter rest with protection from extreme frost for most species is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: root bound decline from leaving in the same pot too long. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
