I planted Chinese Elm Bonsai at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. drying out and death from missing a day's watering in summer didn't help matters. Once I understood repotting every two to three years with root pruning things improved substantially.

living art form that reflects decades of patient cultivation is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a Japanese-inspired garden display with gravel and stone it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. autumn colour on deciduous species before leaf fall redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
