Six months with Chinese Elm Bonsai — what I actually learned
I brought Chinese Elm Bonsai home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding repotting every two to three years with root pruning — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.
I grow it in a purpose-built outdoor bonsai bench with correct height and the position has been ideal. seasonal change including blossom, foliage colour, and bare winter silhouette is what keeps drawing me back to it. winter rest with protection from extreme frost for most species was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: drying out and death from missing a day's watering in summer caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
