Beginner success with Japanese Maple Bonsai — here is what helped
As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Japanese Maple Bonsai. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to repotting every two to three years with root pruning.
I grow mine in a Japanese-inspired garden display with gravel and stone which is working really well. living art form that reflects decades of patient cultivation was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. repotting temperate species in early spring before buds break has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring root bound decline from leaving in the same pot too long, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
