Container growing Japanese Maple Bonsai — a practical guide from experience
I don't have a garden so a purpose-built outdoor bonsai bench with correct height is my only option for Japanese Maple Bonsai. It absolutely works — with the right attention to watering daily in summer as bonsai pots dry out fast you can get excellent results in containers.
deeply personal relationship between artist and tree is fully achievable even in a pot. winter rest with protection from extreme frost for most species is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: root bound decline from leaving in the same pot too long. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
