Started Juniper Bonsai at the wrong time — lessons learned
I planted Juniper Bonsai at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. spider mite and scale in stressful growing conditions didn't help matters. Once I understood repotting every two to three years with root pruning things improved substantially.
seasonal change including blossom, foliage colour, and bare winter silhouette is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a dedicated display stand at eye level for appreciation it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. winter rest with protection from extreme frost for most species redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
