Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Wisteria Bonsai
People describe Wisteria Bonsai as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. repotting every two to three years with root pruning needs consistent attention and drying out and death from missing a day's watering in summer can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Wisteria Bonsai is genuinely underrated is the beauty. miniaturisation of full-grown tree characteristics is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a purpose-built outdoor bonsai bench with correct height and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. vigorous growing season requiring wiring and pinching is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
