The unexpected joy of growing Asiatic Lily

I planted Asiatic Lily without expecting much and it's become one of the most satisfying things in my garden. remarkable energy stored underground for a reliable annual performance is something I couldn't have predicted from looking at it in a nursery. You only understand it once the plant is established and performing.

I keep it in a naturalised lawn planting for a wild spring effect which is perfect for it. adding grit to the planting hole in heavy clay soils was the thing I got lucky getting right early. earliest crocuses and snowdrops emerging in late winter stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. bulb rot from waterlogging in poorly drained soil is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
